It turned my buddy's 1942 Gibson L-00 from a great studio guitar with an awful live sound with it's K&K mini, to the best acoustic I've ever heard live. I always thought the Expression system 1 sounded a bit springy and harsh and didn't convey the guitar's true acoustic voice. One common concern with these is that the preamp will affect your unplugged tone. I love this pickup and am highly impressed with the almost perfect reflection of the tone. I finally got around to putting a pickup in it because it didn't come with one, and I went with the Anthem. My luthier installed it and yesterday I was able to spend the time to dial in the sound. I put this in an older Taylor 414 with Es1.3 system (the first one with 9v battery). Under saddle and microphone. For years, I have been wanting to get one of the LR Baggs Anthems. I basically have it mixed to about 95% true-mic on my guitar (McPherson Sabel). I hate piezo tone. This is not a fingerpicking guitar, but it is my style and I love the sound. So it seems logical to me that the Fishman pu would be best. Unless you're experienced, do yourself a favor and pay to have a reputable luthier do the installation. Martin OM-18E Pickup Shootout: Fishman Aura VT Enhance Vs. L. R. Baggs So, yesterday (10/11/18), my wife and I drove to "Connecticut Guitar and Strings" owned and operated by Luthier, Barry Lipman. I imagine if you're in a pinch you could plug right into a PA system and it would sound pretty great. I purchased this pickup to install in my newly acquired D28. It was the best purchase as a musician I ever made! That is also senseless as you will have to carve out the feedback buster to accommodate the pickup control panel in the soundhole. Taylor retrofits are probably more difficult than most because they CNC mill the large openings in the tailblock to accomodate the ES components. I upgraded my Guild F50R jumbo guitar from the factory-installed Fishman Matrix pickup to the LR Baggs Anthem, and I'm 99% satisfied with my decision. This has been a great piece of equipment so far. We're all familiar with the "steel" tones that piezos provide, and how the "wood" tones can be missing with an under saddle piezo. So I looked into replacement pickups and ran across the Anthem. I'm very pleased. on August 30, 2018, By Nick The install was fairly simple; just take your time and really make sure you have everything where you want it. It still has some of the artifacts being an acoustic pickup -- you can hear some of the piezo aspects of the sound as well as some crispy artifacts of the mic -- but the blend of the two creates something that's very close to natural and is a pleasure to play with just a little EQ optimization. I think if Martin is installing a system in their guitars, then you can assume it's going to sound good. I highly recommend the Anthem Tru Mic. It also has adjustable pole pieces just like an electric humbucker. Simplethe sound.

It's as close as you are going to get to a studio mic in front of your guitar. Called Matt at Sweetwater an ordered an alternative, a Fishman, and had it direct shipped to the tech. When I plugged into the Loudbox Mini which works great the guitar sound was not great, that is all I will say about the ES1and finally the pickup system died. The sound of the Baggs in the 414 is fabulous. I've read reports of white noise, the preamp disengaging, and other problems but I think if you pay a little extra to have it done, then it would be worth it. It is rich, has a lot of depth to the tone that I get out of it and also still very clear and precise. It was such a substantial difference my wife who is not a musician came in the room and said "wow, what did you do to that guitar". I play it with only about 10% of the mic turned on, to give just a slight top end to it and remove the quackiness of the transducer. Had this professionally installed into a D-28CW. Not too difficult to install if you are accustomed to doing your own work. The sound of my guitar, only louder. The final product is great! My method now is to plug into my Fishman Loudbox Mini and run the XLR out into the PA. I have them in a 6 string dreadnought and a 12-string Taylor Grand Auditorium, and I'll just say what's been said so often - this is the best pickup I've ever used whether strumming hard or fingerpicking. There's no modeling and no illusions going on here. Also, it was money well spent, having the pickup pre-installed by professionals; the price point wasn't much more than the exact same guitar without the electronics installed. I'm not a real musician. One of the guys in my band has the Ellipse Matrix Blend in his Masterbuilt, another has the same guitar as mine in cutaway with the Fishman Prefix Premium or something (from the factory) and they're both just blownaway when I plug in. I really liked it but since it was 20 years old and technology has advanced so much I felt it was time for an update. Fingerstyle mostly, a lot of slide guitar. Our worship leader has owned five or six guitars since I've been here, Taylor, Martin, Takamine, Ibanez, but she's settled on a Baden A-Style Mahogany with a cedar top that had just the right amount of warmth and projection, it's really a great sounding guitar. If you're on the fence about installing one of these, I want to tell you - don't be! Then, in goes the Anthem and suddenly I enjoy playing my acoustic amplified. Be your own judge. On the full size Anthem the pickups are full range with the frequencies and you can blend them. But this system doesn't do that. Sounds great just as all of the other reviews stated. Wow! Sweetwater as usual was right on point in all aspects of my purchase too! Or earn 5% back in Bonus Bucks on qualifying purchases of $299 or more when you use your Sweetwater Credit Card. They are both high quality products, but I chose the Anthem because of the final appearance. You must be very intimate with this and expect to spend a couple hours tweaking this before you play live with it, then realistically expect issues that you will have to dial out later. This pickup system really makes your guitar sound full, rich, and crisp. Finally the jack became noisy and replacements aren't an option. If this doesn't do it for you, nothing will. After fighting that awful Taylor system I pulled it and replaced it with this. He also sent me additional adhesive pieces very promptly. It's he system beautifully captures the full sound of the 12-string. The LR Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Pickup will change the way you look at mic pickups! . I'm strongly considering the Wavelength now - is the Volume/TOne module necessary or recommended? All are great.
